DOCTORAL CANDIDATE POSITION IN MARINE TECHNOLOGY

Finnish maritime cluster is known for the complex and high-value products it makes. The product portfolio varies from physical objects such as ships, outfitting and equipment to expert services and software. As one of the missions of the Aalto University is to serve society by education of game-changers, the Marine Technology Research group launches industrial Doctoral School in which aim to educate future Doctors of Science to companies. The concept is to integrate the Doctoral thesis research to be essential part of the everyday work life in companies. The research problems of theses are those identified by network of companies to be of fundamental importance for Finnish Maritime cluster. These are associated with

  • Improvement of the overall shipping performance by market analysis combining fixture (voyage charter contract) and Automatic Identification System (AIS) data
  • Numerical simulation of sea ice including ice-breaking process modelling during maritime operations
  • Advanced ship hull strength assessment calculation methods for improved designs based on utilization of advanced materials and production methods

Requirements The call is open for candidates with a Master’s degree in marine technology or a any other relevant discipline associated with thesis topics. The candidates are expected to be proactive, capable to work in teams, goal-oriented and to possess a good potential in knowledge, skills and attitude towards post-graduate studies in multidisciplinary field of science.

Employment

The expected duration of doctoral studies is four years, but a contract is at first made for one year, and the extension is subject to advance of studies and research. The salary is according to the salary system of Aalto University.
