Funded PhD position; in Stem Cell and Developmental Biology / Molecular Neurobiology; at Biology Department of Darmstadt University of Technology; in Germany

The Biology Department of the TU Darmstadt (Darmstadt University of Technology), Germany, invites applications for a PhD position (salary grade 50% E13 TV-TU Darmstadt) in the Stem Cell and Developmental Biology groupavailable immediately. The appointment is for three years.

This is an exciting opportunity to perform research on stress-induced epigenetic changes in the brain. Stressful events can lead to long-lasting disease-relevant changes in brain function (e.g. cognitive impairment, posttraumatic stress disorder) and the epigenetic modulation of gene expression plays a crucial role in the brain’s response to stress. Proteins that bind to methylated DNA and influence chromatin structure and gene expression represent critical molecular links between epigenetic marks and neuronal function. MECP2 acts as such an epigenetic reader and plays an essential role in the regulation of a stress hormone system in the brain.

We are looking for a highly motivated person who is interested in performing research in the field of epigenetic gene expression regulation and molecular neurobiology in a dynamic and young international team.
This project involves a large spectrum of modern methodologies including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and CRISPR/Cas-mediated genome editing. Mouse cells and human iPS cells will be used.

Job description
The successful candidate should conduct research projects on stress-induced epigenetic changes in the brain leading to a PhD degree.
