Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (FWO) is offering Umicore Materials Technology PhD Award to study in Belgium. Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply for this award.

The Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) is an independent agency that stimulates and supports ground-breaking fundamental research in all areas of science at the universities in the Flemish Community, including associated research institutes.
Course Level: Award is available to pursue Ph.D. programme.
Study Subject: On the initiative of Umicore organizing the Fund for Scientific Research – Flanders (FWO) and the Fund for Scientific Research-FNRS (FRS-FNRS) the ‘Umicore Materials Technology PhD Award in recognition of an original contribution in one of the following areas:
- Recycling/resource scarcity (related to metals)
- Materials for Catalysis
- Materials for Batteries
Scholarship Award: The award amounts to € 10,000 and will be awarded in recognition of original and outstanding scientific doctoral research in the areas listed above.
Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:
The Award will be granted on the basis of the recommendations of an independent Jury of scientific experts, appointed by the F.R.S.-FNRS and the FWO, and following an evaluation procedure in two stages. The first stage consists of a Jury review of all applications, in which the highest-ranked candidates will be shortlisted. In a second stage, shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their research (through video conference interview) to a joint evaluation committee of the Scientific Jury and representative members of Umicore R&D staff. From this second stage of the evaluation, the final laureate will eventually be chosen.
Candidates must be in a position to interact freely with Umicore.

English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.
