The Chair of Development Economics and the Center for Development and Cooperation (NADEL) at ETH Zurich are offering a doctoral student position to enhance our understanding of the youth labor market situation in cities of low income countries and how to improve it.
PhD Position in Development Economics on Youth Employment
The PhD student will contribute to a larger interdisciplinary research project on linking the education and labor market involving five research groups and PhDs from Switzerland, Chile, Benin, Nepal, and Costa Rica. The position is full-time and limited to four years. We offer an exciting and intellectually challenging position at a renowned university with close links to policy making. Besides own research you will participate in ongoing research and teaching activities of the Chair of Development Economics. The position is available from November 1st, 2017 and will be paid according to ETH Zurich PhD guidelines.
The successful candidate should have a qualified MA degree in economics or a related field and should speak and write English proficiently. Knowledge of basic French is also required. The ideal candidate has a strong background in quantitative methods and is interested in econometric and experimental methods. Previous work experience in low- or middle income countries and experience with survey design and implementation is an additional asset. In addition you are a true team player, you enjoy interdisciplinary work, and you have strong communication skills and are willing to travel for fieldwork to Benin and Nepal. Cooperation with international and local policy makers and practitioners is expected.
