PhD position in biomedical information extraction (and 9 more in general biomedical research), Berlin, Germany

The collaborative research project “Beyond the Exome” [1], funded by the German Research Council, is looking for 10 PostDocs / PhD students to study the disease potential of non-coding DNA variants in rare genetic diseases. All positions will be based in Berlin, Germay

One PhD position will be devoted to biomedical data integration and information extraction form text [2]. The goal is to build a a comprehensive repository of regulatory elements, their effects on gene expression, the impact of variants on
gene expression, and the association of these variants to human diseases, using advanced methods in text mining (representation learning, neural entity normalization) combined with large-scale data integration.

Other positions in the project might be interesting for machine-learning affine persons in Bioinformatics (outside text mining), especially
– P07 (Epigenomic mapping of myogenic regulation) and
– P09 (DNA sequence patterns crucial for transcription factor binding).

Applicants should be willing to work in a highly interdisciplinary
research environment and be able to communicate ideas across classic
subject boundaries. Details on the application procedure can be found at
[3].

Best wishes,
Ulf Leser
