PhD Project Immunology, Medical Faculty, Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg

Duration: three years, federal wage agreement TV-L 13, 65 %The Medical Faculty is an integral structure of the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg and cooperates closely with the University Hospital Magdeburg in research, education and healthcare. The research profile of the faculty is defined by the two focal areas “Immunology and Molecular Medicine of Inflammation“ and “Neurosciences“. Every year, about 185 students are enrolled in the medical curriculum. With Immunology being a research focus of the medical faculty of OvGU, the planned research is embedded in a strong collaborative environment at the forefront of the field. The available projects focus on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms of the immune response:

  1. The role of oxidation in the regulation of the activity of the tyrosine kinase Zap-70 in both T cells and leukemic B cells.
  2. Natural products with immunomodulatory activity for the treatment of age-related dysfunctions.
  3. Single-cell analysis of the activation signals that control dynamic immune cell interactions with intracellular pathogens in vivo.
We offer a highly motivating working environment, including the integration in a Graduate Program (including interdisciplinary practical trainings, summer schools and retreats, mentoring, etc.), excellent research facilities, and an international environment with English as the working language. The ideal applicants should have a university degree in a life sciences discipline with a focus on immunology, and must be willing to work with immunological animal models. Especially for the third project, an interest in learning the bioinformatics skills for basic analysis of single cell sequencing data would be favorable. The regional capital Magdeburg is one of the oldest cities in Germany with a rich history and one of the greenest cities in Europe. The cities of Leipzig and Berlin are very easily reached by train. The positions are available immediately. For more information about our research see: Level: Group E13 according to TV-L
