The Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) of ETH Zurich is located in Basel, a European hotspot for biomedical research, in close proximity of the University of Basel, the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research, and the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. 
The Computational Biology (CoBi) Group, D-BSSE, ETH Zurich focuses on image-based modelling and simulation of developmental processes with applications in bioengineering.
PhD student in Mathematical Modelling / Scientific Computing for in silico Organogenesis
The PhD student will focus on image-based modelling of organogenesis – the detailed project will be defined together with the student to match his/her interests.

Candidates should hold a Master degree in Applied Mathematics / Numerics, Scientific Computing or related disciplines and have an interest in numerical methods to solve systems of PDEs on complex, moving geometries and to develop methods for efficient parameter estimation. Previous experience with C++ programming would be ideal. Prior experience with biological systems is not required, but is an advantage; the necessary biological background can be learned on the project.

The position is available immediately; the exact starting date can be negotiated. The working language is English. The salary and general working conditions are internationally highly competitive.
